The 91制片厂 Summer English Academy is an intensive 5-day course designed to provide 6th Year students with the confidence and skills to succeed in Higher Level English.
This course aims to focus on one key aspect of the LC English course per day, concentrating on the key components of the marking scheme, and illustrating how students can adopt specific revision and writing techniques to improve the quality of their exam answers.
Covering key topics on the syllabus, our English Academy will ensure students are prepared for the challenges of Higher-Level English in Senior Cycle so they can hit the ground running in September.
This course will be delivered onsite at our Leeson Street Campus in Dublin.

This course breaks down the structure of the exam paper into discrete bundles – recognising what is unique to each question and writing task, and identifying areas of continuity, where clear analytic and writing skills can be developed across the papers as a whole. By the end of the course, students will have been introduced to many new concepts, terminology, and structures/styles of writing. The goal throughout is to have students better prepared to engage with their Senior Cycle English Programme in September, and provide a clear roadmap for improvement in upcoming Christmas and Mock examinations.
The material covered each day will be as follows:
Day 1 鈥撀營ntroduction to 鈥楧iscursive Essay鈥� 鈥� The underlying structure of all LC Questions is developing a meaningful and engaging writing style that focuses in on concept and writing development. This session focuses on converting content knowledge into meaningful exam plans and responses. We will also scaffold how to plan your long-term development as a LC English student with clear measurement and tracking activities. Understanding the 鈥楶, L, M, C鈥� marking scheme will also be a key feature of this process.
Day 2 鈥撀�Speechwriting and Debates聽Across Paper 1 鈥� Introduction to the 鈥楲anguage of Persuasion鈥�. Planning and executing LC Speeches with rhetorical flair. Structure and responses to Leaving Certificate Paper 1. Comprehensions that deal with multiple forms of oratory聽and rhetorical devices.
Day 3 鈥撀營ntro to Unseen & Studied Poetry 鈥� Developing a methodological approach to poetry responses. Focusing in on聽selected poems of Emily Dickinson.
Day 4 鈥撀燬ingle Text Study 鈥� Introduction to Shakespeare 鈥� Key principles in engaging critically with Shakespearean language and theatrical conventions.聽Understanding the role of the Tragic Hero. Writing about Theme and Character in LC answers.
Day 5 鈥撀營ntro to Comparative Questions 鈥� Key requirement of 鈥榤odes鈥� of study. Cultural Context &聽General Vision and Viewpoint (focusing on the texts The Shawshank Redemption and Small Things Like These) 鈥� Unique answer structures of the 30 and 40-mark questions, compared with the 70-mark essay structure.

A: Yes, recordings of classes will be available after each live class is completed. These can then be replayed as a revision aid.
Q: Are the class notes available online?
A: No, a hard copy will be given out to each student enrolled on the course.
Q: How long is each class on this course?
A: Each class lasts 3 hours per day for the 5 days of the course.
Q: Is attendance at this course monitored?
A: Yes, attendance is monitored for each class attended. The 91制片厂 however accepts no responsibility for students who fail to attend class.
Q: Are the classes conducted 鈥榣ecture style鈥� or are students free to ask questions?
A: Our classes are interactive and our teachers use a variety of methods to ensure that students can ask questions and contribute to the class.
Q: My son/daughter cannot attend the course. Can we buy the notes?
A: No. Teaching is a central part of all our courses. The notes are to facilitate recall and revision of the day鈥檚 work covered by the teacher.
