This week,听 4th year students Selin Palanduz, Alex Brady and Clara Donaghy had the opportunity to experience what it鈥檚 like to study medicine and work as a doctor as part of the听RCSI Transition Year MiniMed programme. We sat down with Clara to hear about her experience at the MiniMed week:
鈥淥verall it was a great experience. We got a really good insight into the Medical profession. It wasn鈥檛 just lectures and conversations, we watched a live C-section and got to see the simulation rooms. The mock surgery room and mock A&E room were amazing. They also have patient dummies that are very realistic, they actually talk which was really cool. They showed us how x-ray works and taught us how to tell if a bone is broken. Then we used plaster of Paris to make casts for each other鈥檚 arms which was really fun.
I had always considered studying medicine but wasn鈥檛 100% certain. However, after spending time in the RCSI, it鈥檚 definitely on the cards! I would definitely recommend the MiniMed programme to anyone thinking of studying medicine and I know the other students on the programme would too!鈥 – Clara Donaghy, 4th year
